Photography
Gene began taking pictures in the Sixth Grade with a Kodak Starflex TLR box camera. In high school he purchased a Kodak Signet 40 rangefinder and used the camera club's Yashica A TLR. Over the years he has owned and used a Rolleiflex TLR, Leica M2 and Contax IIa rangefinders, Olympus OM-1, Pentax Spotmatic, and Nikon 35mm SLRs, as well as a Hasselblad 500 C/M. For many years he operated a traditional darkroom and he still shoots, develops, and scans his own B&W film.
In 2001 he purchased his first digital camera, a Canon G2, and has been a fan of digital photography ever since. He has owned several small digicams and various DSLR cameras. He currently does most of his digital shooting with a Nikon DSLR and various Nikon lenses, including a wide range of manual-focus Nikkor primes, and a Canon G series compact digital.
Living in the village of Port Credit, near Toronto on Lake Ontario, Gene combines photography with his daily walks and bike rides around the harbour. He specializes in capturing the nuances of Port Credit through the seasons. You can view his Port Credit portfolios in the Pbase and Flickr links on the right. His screen name on both sites is StarbuckGuy.
